Abstract
Two chitinolytic and egg-parasitic fungi Lecanicillium psalliotaeA-1 and Lecanicillium antillanum B-3 were isolated andidentified for biocontrol of M. incognita in cucumber field. They were cultivated, and mycelial biomass has been formulated andtreated to the soil to evaluate their nematicidal activity on suppressing root-knot nematode M. incognita on cucumber plants ingreenhouse. The chitinolytic fungi reduced cucumber root galls by 71.8, 60.3, and 47.4% in B-3, A-1+B-3, and A-1 treatment,respectively. In addition, nematode population in cucumber root was also reduced by 79.8, 62.0, and 37.9% in B-3, A-1+B-3,and A-1 treatments after 7 weeks of cucumber growth. Moreover, B-3 treatment improved significantly cucumber growth. Theresults demonstrate that the fungi B-3 and A-1 showed effectiveness of biological control of M. incognita on cucumber in potexperiment. These results demonstrate that the isolated fungi L. antillanum B-3 and L. psalliotae A-1 hold a high potential in eggparasitism and could be biological control agent against M. incognita in cucumber field.
