Based on the “Chinese Character and Word of the Year”(2006-2021), the paper constructs a net of the characters, words and phrases. Though influenced by social and linguistic factors, both of the character net and the word net transformed from original 2-modal net exhibit small world and scale-free features and the degree distribution of the characters in the 2-modal net follows a power-law. The quantitative features of the net reflect its social function of national identity construction.
