This paper aims to evaluate the inter-temporal efficiency trends of global logistics performance of countries and propose strategies for improving national economic performance and global competitiveness through enhancing global logistics performance employing indicators such as Logistics Performance Index (LPI), Global Competitiveness Index (GCI), and Gross Domestic Product (GDP) per capita. The combined Two-step clustering and DEA window methodologies were used to group countries and measure their efficiency trends from 2007 to 2018. Whereas LPI components of infrastructure, customs, and logistics quality and competence are significant in increasing a country’s global competitiveness, they are not crucial in increasing the GDP per capita of cluster 2 (developed) countries. Also, few countries intermittently operated on the efficiency frontier with the majority being inefficient due to pure-technical inefficiencies. We recommend advanced automation that will enable countries (especially in cluster 1) to identify problem areas, streamline operations, and share information to counter managerial inefficiencies.
