The concept of sustainability is increasingly important with the notion of global threats to the environment. In a response to environmental sustainability, many organizations are facing a heavy pressure to invest in green IT initiatives. However, the concept of green IT initiatives is rarely defined and little research has focused on the green IT approach and strategies. The purpose of this paper is to present the phases of green IT maturity, focusing particularly on the factors that influence maturity process. From a resource-based perspective, we outline a green IT domain matrix and present a maturity model in terms of the degree of resource utilization. Several theoretical propositions are derived from a maturity model for identifying the effects of resource utilizations on green IT maturity.
