The aim of this paper is to analyze the metaphorical utilization of threads or strings in Korean. It is found out that their shape, the way of manipulating them, and the process of thread-work are metaphorically utilized: Their thin and lengthy shape is exploited in image metaphors; Linking and cutting threads are utilized in metaphorical realizations of the image schema of LINK, which conceptualizes SUCCESSIVE ACTION, RELATION, and HUMAN RELATIONSHIP; Binding things in terms of threads is utilized in metaphorical realizations of the image schema of FORCE, which conceptualizes CAUSE; The process of thread-work is systematically utilized in the conceptual metaphor of [EVENT IS THREAD-WORK]. The conceptual metaphor is coherent with an alternative journey metaphor, but has a different metaphorical entailment regarding a good problem solving: Successful problem solving is achieved with care and caution rather than energy or force.
