Abstract
The activated carbons (Acs) derived from waste corn residues was prepared using wet impregnation of potassium hydroxide as activation agent. The effects of the impregnation concentrations on textural properties and adsorption for methylene blue (Mb) and lead (Pb) were evaluated. The prepared Ac-70 powder was mixed with dissolved chitosan into acetic acid solution and gelated using sodium hydroxide. The obtained AcCh beads combined with activated carbon and chitosan were investigate to simultaneous adsorption of organic and inorganic compounds. The adsorption equilibrium isotherm of Mb and Pb on the AcCh beads were well represented by Langmuir and Sips isotherm model. The pore diffusion model was employed to determine the internal diffusion coefficient and the results was in good agreement with experimental kinetic data. Consequently, AcCh beads could be used as an adsorbent for simultaneous removal of reactive dye and heavy metal ions from aqueous effluents.
