This study attempted to show how digital data appeared in the field of musicology and what possibilities it has for music studies. To this end, I compared two sets of research cases that used analog data and the other using digital data. The first set to compare is the two cases where the performances on the record are the subjects of research, and the case of comparing and analyzing by the researcher''s ear is compared with the case using the statistical method by converting the performances recorded on the record into digital data. The second set compares the work of A. Lomax, who collected over 1,800 songs, with recent research using big data analysis. Through the two sets of case comparisons, the research meanings, methodological limitations, and prospects of the method of studying music with digitized data are explored, and the possibility of such research methods in Korean music studies is discussed from the performance analysis perspective.
