Abstract
This study investigated JND (just noticeable difference) of SPL in low-frequency range for airborne sounds in residental space through an auditory experiment. Test sound consisted of TV news, piano and music (metal genre) filtered by sound transmission loss of 200 mm concrete wall. SPL in 63 Hz octave band of test sound was adjusted to +5, +10, +15, and +20 dB compared with SPL in 125 Hz octave band. In the auditory experiment using method of limit, subjects were asked to judge whether test sound is different with reference sound (original sound) in terms of subjective response such as rumbling, loudness, and annoyance. Result showed that JND (annoyance) of SPL in 63 Hz octave band of metal music sound with high SPL in low-frequency range was about 13 dB and lower than other test sounds for all subjective responses. It was also found that JND for rumbling is lower than other subjective responses for all test sounds.
