Purpose: The study aimed to provide a better understanding of the experiences of family caregivers attending a psychoeducation intervention in the form of a public health intervention. Method: In a descriptive qualitative design with focus groups, 13 family caregivers of people with dementia (PwD) were recruited from two community-based dementia care centers in South Korea. A content-analytic approach was used for data analysis. Result: Two categories with six subcategories were derived as follows: (1) Perceived benefits of a psychoeducational intervention: Understanding the symptoms of dementia, acquisition of new caregiving skills, and emotional support, and (2) Suggestions for future improvement of the public psychoeducational program: Need for practical caring skills, desire for flexible and continuous participation, and enhancement of public psychoeducational intervention services. Conclusion: These findings indicate that public psychoeducation interventions can enhance caregivers’ coping abilities, while highlighting the importance of tailoring programs to address practical needs and ensuring sustained peer support.
