Abstract
With restrictions on physical movement due to the impact of COVID-19, the space called ‘Metaverse’ has received attention again. Metaverse is an alternative space where you can lead a diverse life online without any restrictions. Accordingly, art galleries and museums are conducting various activities using the metaverse, but Philippe Daverio and André Malraux dealt with this concept a long time ago. In his book 『Imagination Museum』, Philippe Daverio builds the Imagination Museum to appreciate works without physical restrictions. It consists of the 1st basement floor and the 3rd floor, and consists of a total of 12 rooms. Matching pictures are arranged in each room and hallway, and they are all conceived in the head and presented through the medium of a book. However, if you follow Daverio’s point of view, you get the illusion of seeing a real museum. He also says to actively use the Internet while reading books. It is said that it is much easier to find works on the Internet than it is difficult to see among visitors in a real museum, because they can be enlarged, and hidden details can be found in the paintings. In André Malraux’s 『Museum of Imagination』, it is said that an imaginary museum can be built even with a ceramic plate. Anyone can make a museum by themselves, as long as they have a picture of a ceramic plate. Their approach is no different from the current metaverse. An imaginary museum is accessible to anyone and can contain vast quantities. What should be noted here is the point where the various institutions of the actual museum are transformed into digital technology through the concept of the imaginary museum, and connected and expanded into a new world. Therefore, the Sangsang Museum can be a new alternative in the post-corona era.
