Abstract
This study explores the reinterpretation of the formative aesthetics and symbolic meanings embedded in women's ornaments from the Joseon Dynasty through contemporary nail art design, with the aim of integrating traditional cultural heritage into the field of modern beauty. During the Joseon period, ornaments such as binyeo, dwikkoji, tteoljam, jokduri, and hwagwan were not merely decorative but conveyed social values including authority, fidelity, and virtue, while accessories like norigae, hyangnang, jangdo, jubuni, and garakji embodied both practicality and symbolic aspirations for longevity, fertility, and prosperity. Through a comprehensive literature review, the cultural and historical significance of these traditional accessories was examined, and key formative elements were extracted. Based on this theoretical foundation, eight nail art designs were developed utilizing diverse techniques, including hand-painting, marble art, 3D embossing, airbrushing, stone art, folk painting, water decals, and pro-transfer methods. The findings suggest that traditional Korean ornaments provide a valuable source of inspiration for contemporary nail art, offering both artistic depth and cultural narrative. This study affirms the potential of nail design as a medium for cultural reinterpretation and aesthetic innovation, and further proposes its viability as cultural content that bridges traditional symbolism with modern consumer sensibilities
