The purpose of this study is to analyze the makeup characteristics of the Chinese opera characters of Cheongdei and Danshalo, the main characters of the movie ‘Farewell My Concubine’, and then compare and analyze the makeup and formative aspects of the Chinese traditional opera characters. This aims to recognize how traditional make-up is reappearing in modern films, and measure the direction of application of film make-up in the future. As a research method, literature research on Chinese opera was conducted through prior research, video data, books, and Internet data. In particular, for the analysis of traditional Chinese opera make-up, the characters’ eyebrows, eye line, shadow, skin, and lips were analyzed to identify the formative aspect around the characters of Cheongdei and Danshallo, which appeared in the movie ‘Farewell My Concubine’. This study intends to analyze the makeup features of the characters. As a result of the study, some traditional Chinese opera makeup and the Chinese opera makeup in the movie ‘Farewell My Concubine’were expressed in the same way, but in part, they were transformed to give credibility to the flow of the story. Also, it was found that makeup was applied as a means of expressing empathy and the personality of the characters. As such, it is predicted that makeup in video media will be reproduced and reapplied in the future.
