Abstract
Ultraviolet (UV) radiation causes photoaging in human skin. Phytochemicals from herbs has been used to treat various skin problems. The present study examined the effect of Pueraria thunbergiana extracts on wrinkle formation, wrinkle depth, skin thickness, and changes in collagen fibers in hairless mice. UVB radiation was applied to the backs of the mice 3 times a week for 9 weeks. The amount of irradiation was progressively increased from 100 mJ/cm2 (1st weeks) and 200 mJ/cm2 (2th to 9th weeks). UVB-induced mice were treated with 2% Pueraria thunbergiana extracts in skin of mice. In mice, Pueraria thunbergiana extracts inhibited UVB-induced wrinkle formation, epidermal depth, epidermal thickening, and damage to collagen fiber. These results suggest that Pueraria thunbergiana extracts has the potential to prevent wrinkle formation in UVB -induced mice.
