The purpose of this study is to divide the nurturing types of grandparents ingrandparent-grandchildren families and to seek plans for social support corresponding to the types. The participants were 10 grandparents of seven grandparent-grandchildren families on Jeju Island. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and analyzed using the conditional/consequentialmatrix of grounded theory. The results of this study show that grandparents ingrandparent-grandchildren families have different experiences of nurturing difficulties and resolutionstrategies according to the degree of network, formal care, and application of information. As aresult, the nurturing types of grandparents in grandparent-grandchildren families are divided intothree types: dependence, exploration, and diffidence. The dependence type needs emotional support,the exploration type needs job opportunities, and the diffidence type needs public service. Therefore,it is necessary to consider the individual situation of grandparent-grandchildren families and providethem with social support corresponding to the situation.
