Abstract
The purpose of this study is skin conditions, skin problems, skin phototype, skin health care types which were perceived by adult females of different life cycle such as the early adults, the mid-life, and the elderly. The results of this study can be summarized as follows. the perceived skin conditions of different life cycle were various. On the item of ‘sticky vs. moistless’, ‘sensitive vs. insensitive’ and ‘thick vs. thin’, the elderly perceived their skin ‘moistless’, ‘insensitive’ and ‘thin’, more than the mid-life and the early adults. On the item of ‘dry vs. moist’, ‘inelastic vs. taut’, and ‘rugged vs. smooth’, which showed significant difference. On the item of ‘coarse vs. sleek’ and ‘dark vs. white’, the early adults perceived their skin ‘sleek’ and ‘white’ more than the mid-life and the elderly. On the item of ‘shallow vs. lively’,the early adults and the elderly perceived their skin ‘lively’ more than the mid-life. On the skin problems depending on the life cycle, more of the elderly regarded wrinkles, pigmentation, dark skin color, small vein burst as their skin problems, and the more early adults perceived the sensitivity and skin rash as the skin problems, which showed significant difference. On the skin phototype, the order of the elderly were the type II, III, and, the mid-life were the type II, I, and III, and the early adults were the type I, II, and III, which showed significant difference. Skin health care types were classified by five factors; eating habits, skin care, sources of skin care, lifestyle, and personal preference of drinking or smoking. The elderly were more active in skin health care in eating habits, lifestyle, and personal preference, while the early adults were more active in skin care and sources of skin care, where significant differences were found.
