There are some studies that regard the British Empire as a sort of ‘world network’ in the field of imperial history. This trend seems to be related to the present globalization. Considering these recent studies, this paper focuses on summing up the expansion of the British Empire and its operation, economic exchanges within the British world-network, and the formation of ideologies for the British world. The rise of the British world in the nineteenth century was indebted not only to the commercial and industrial power of Britain but to the conditions of geo-politics that had been formed between passive East Asia, the balance of European powers, and un-warlike America. The Suez Cannel was a lever of the strengthening of the condition. In addition, the aggressive activities of financial capitalists and foreign merchants in Britain was helpful for the development of the British world network.
