This study set up research questions for domestic master’s and doctoral dissertations and academic journals from 2020 to 2024 to suggest basic data for the development of safety acne cosmetic formulations and future research directions. Data from previous studies were collected from the RISS Academic Research Information Service. As a result of the study, the number of dissertations for acne skin improvement by year was 14 in 2021, 13 in 2020, and 10 in 2023. Studies related to extract substances and efficacy for acne skin improvement by year were found to be 7 thesis in 2020, 9 in 2021, 3 in 2022, and 2 academic journals in 2020. Tea, aroma oil, fermented lacquer, and wasong complex extracts were found to be the most used for acne skin improvement, and vitamins, catechin, flavonoids, and propolis were used. As for the application cases of formulations according to major ingredients, there were 10 thesis in 2020, 3 in 2021, 2 in 2023, 6 in 2020, 4 in 2020, and 3 in 2021 in academic journals. As a result of examining the research cases of the number of papers by efficacy, antibacterial, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-aging, whitening, and others appeared in order. As a result of the above, various studies have been conducted on extracts and efficacy that have been secured for human skin, but studies on the development of acne cosmetics based on acne skin improvement efficacy ingredients are gradually decreasing.
