Abstract
Increasing attention has been paid to studies addressing the generation of potentially hazardous ultrafineparticles from filament-based three-dimensional (3D) printers. The characteristics of the hazardous substancesgenerated by 3D printing materials have been reported, and safety booth technology has been developed for3D printers to overcome this problem. This study proposed a space-purifying 3D printing safety booth andanalyzed its internal flow characteristics based on the intake and exhaust port locations to identify optimaldesigns. Eight booth models were analyzed with variations in the intake and exhaust port positions to reducethe particle concentration and improve the air quality within the booth environment. Formaldehyde andbenzene were used as pollutants in the simulation model. Flow characteristics such as internal temperatureand pollutant emission levels were analyzed based on the operation of the safety booth. Based on the results,the appropriate positions of the intake and exhaust ports for a space-purifying 3D printer safety booth areproposed, and the necessity and effectiveness of a space-purifying 3D printer safety booth system arediscussed.
